News and updates about Tom Phillips, posted by the artist himself
“I Wish . . . ” is an exhibition and auction being run throughout Summer 2023 by the Laurence Sterne Trust, of which Tom was a patron, in Shandy Hall’s 50th anniversary year.
Artists and writers have created an artwork based on ‘I Wish . ..‘ the first two words from Tristram Shandy. Works are being exhibited anonymously and will be auctioned, with bids accepted until 31st August. Each maker has signed their work, but the identity of each artist will only be revealed to the highest bidder.
Each winner will receive a unique work of art, and the proceeds will go towards preserving Shandy Hall for another 50 years. The exhibition is now viewable online, and bids may be made in person or via the auction website.
The exhibition and website will be open for visits and bids until 12 noon on 31st August.

To celebrate the centenary of T. S. Eliot's masterpiece The Waste Land the Folio Society have published a special limited edition of 350 numbered copies with tip-in illustrations by Tom Phillips. The volume is half-bound in vellum blocked in 22-carat gold and printed letterpress, the binding itself designed by Phillips. Each numbered copy has been signed by the artist. This edition is only available in the USA and Canada. The Folio Society have produced a video with further information.
Regular visitors to the Tom Phillips website may have noticed that the top menu has now been expanded to include a section on Humbert, Phillips's longstanding studio diary/sketchbook/daybook. A selection of pages from Humbert has just been published by the Talfourd Press in a handsome edition of 175 signed and numbered copies. Humbert can be ordered from our website shop which has also been expanded to include a dedicated bookshop. We hope you will enjoy exploring.
