Notes on this work
This tapestry made by the Manufactura Tapeçarias Portalegre is based on one of Tom Phillips's collage illustrations to Plato's Symposium.
"I am a composer in the same way as a pianist without hands could be a pianist. This is something I never stop thinking about, but which I can’t really handle in its entirety because I lack a whole range of technical expertise. Nevertheless an idea for a composition allows me to get ahead with all sorts of pieces of work. Some of these are in fact linked to the feeling I have for music and actually emerge as unplayable pieces, ones based on the almighty five line of the stave, which dominated the life on a musician from cradle to grave."
