Canto XXXI/1: Nimrod
Canto XXXI/1: Nimrod
page size 39.5 x 31 cm
1979 – 1983
Primordial letter-forms here describe both the language of Nimrod, architect of the Tower of Babel (who now talks gibberish) and the unified language of the world that his vainglorious scheme brought to an end. The colours relate to rock paintings in the Kalahari which the artist studied and from which the letterforms were derived.
