Based on a watercolour derived from ink sketches made by the artist in the Scrovegni chapel in Padua, which Giotto (a friend of Dante) was commissioned to decorate with his magnificent frescoes, this image refutes Ezra Pound's assertion that no great art was begotten by usury – since the Scrovegni fortune was so made.
