Reworking an earlier image from a suite called A Walk to the Studio, the artist created a unified field populated by the stopcock box lids in the pavements he walked daily, their lugubrious colour and skull-like shape seeming to announce death : here these heads become those of the souls fixed in ice over which Dante treads in this circle of hell.
